Our Seafarm

Location

Situated in Singapore waters in the east coast of Pulau Tekong, Mahota Seafarm is a floating farm half-an-hour by boat from Changi Village. The seafarm was acquired from its previous owner for its conducive environment for Aquaculture. It is away from crowded human settlements where the currents are stronger and relatively less exposed to Algae Boom (Red Tide) that is a common threat to farms located in the eastern coast of Singapore. A mangrove swamp nearby helps to maintain water quality through filtering pollutants and sediments present in the water flowing through it.

Farming Philosophy

Sustainable Resources

Mahota Seafarm uses renewable energy and maintains biodiversity. It is equipped with solar panels to provide clean energy for operations of farming machinery, equipment, office and living areas. It uses seawater treatment system to desalinate seawater and collects rain water for general cleaning purposes.

Expertise & Conducive Living

The crew on board comprises of experts in the field of Marine Biology, Aquaculture as well as experienced aquaculture farmers. They live in conducive work & living environment, working by shifts to monitor water environment and ensuring fish welfare. We believe sustainable sea-farming is achievable by engaging expertise passionate in the field and ensuring welfare of both man and farmed animals.

Durable Materials

Materials used for building the seafarm are specially selected. These include Balau Wood used for heavy construction, Flotation Barrels of food-grade quality BPA-free HDPE approved for shipping liquid food products as well as 'bulletproof' nets far stronger than traditional ones that reduces the need for mending and protects the fish from external threats of larger species.

Biodiversity & Ecology Technology

A common problem with seafood farming is pollution in a monoculture (single species) environment whereby residual bait leads to diseases. This can be overcome by increasing fish production, matching one or 2 kinds of omnivorous fish without increasing the feeding. E.g. Yellow Fins mix with Mullet and Milkfish, or others such as Shrimps and Crabs.

Nursery Management

Fingerlings grow in protected, uncrowded, closely monitored water environment and fed with suitable diet till they grow to a size that is more appropriate for stocking into large production units. Fish movements are detectable and data obtained are traceable.
